TPF Partnership and Investment Strategy

The Phillips Foundation has three investment programs aligned with our founders philanthropic intentions. Our investments are applied through the following framework:

Discovery philanthropy: annual grants program that invests in direct service delivery or individual change programs and initiatives

Strategic philanthropy: multi-year investments with partners who we believe are interested in partnering with others to achieve systems change.

Venture philanthropy: long-term investments that combines grant-making and impact investment to achieve system change and identify community-led intervention models that may be applied in other communities.

For more information on our partnership and investment strategy, please refer to this brief video.

Sustainable Development Goals

We monitor partnership outputs across all three philanthropic programs.
Outputs are aligned with 5 key United Nations Sustainable Development goals.

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

The Phillips Foundation believes Good Health and Wellbeing are central to young people feeling hopeful about their future and achieving their full potential.

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Education is central to The Phillips Foundation’s philanthropic investment streams. We seek to improve access to education in developing nations, and support quality education for all.

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

The Phillips Foundation actively seeks to support girls overcome systemic barriers to accessing & participating in quality education and supports a number of organisations working exclusively with girls to overcome education programs and initiatives. In 2023, 57.8% of children and young people participating in TPF partner programs represented 57.8%.

Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The Phillips Foundation understands that water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) are fundamental requirements for children and young people to access education, yet WASH remains a significant impediment in many developing nations. Through our Access to Education funding investment our funding partners worked with communities and their children in Africa and Asia to address WASH in an educational context.

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

The Phillips Foundation believes that for children to be helpful about their future, they also need to be connected to nature. Where possible, our partners focus on the importance of the environment and the imminent threat of climate change to our planet and its peoples.

Our Learnings

The Phillips Foundation has supported over 70 organisations since it was established in 2017. Each year, we convene our partners in person to connect, learn and collaborate. Our annual learning day is held in Melbourne, Australia each February.

These sessions are designed to stimulate connection, networks and where possible collaboration. At this forum we also launch our annual report, which reflects on our prior year progress.
