The Phillips Foundation has been a longstanding supporter of Dymocks Children’s Charities, an organisation that provides brand new books to disadvantaged children and encourages literacy. The past 12 months has presented many challenges, including the 2019-2020 Australian bushfire season and COVID-19 hard lockdowns.
The Phillips Foundation was happy to step up and provide support and books throughout both of these crises. You can read the full ‘Quarterly Quack newsletter here.
Australian Bushfires
Since their emergency Bushfire Appeal in January, The Dymock’s team have been able to deliver $331,624 worth of books to 53 affected communities across Australia. The funding from this appeal enabled them to provide books to children in communities that were heavily affected by the fires.
“This appeal could not have been possible without the support of our incredible donors, the Dymocks Store Network, a $30,000 donation from The Phillips Foundation and the various community groups, organisations and volunteers who helped coordinate the distribution of these books. This campaign was our most successful appeal in history, with us delivering a total of 18,779 books to 8,208 children in New South Wales, Victoria, South
Australia and Queensland,” said the Dymocks Children’s Charities team.
“Thank you so much for your kind donation, a bright spot for our students, several of whom lost their houses in the recent fires and are now living in temporary accommodation.”

“Once again, our whole school community appreciates this donation enormously. Watching the teachers look through the books, hearing

their enthusiastic comments and seeing the excitement on their faces, will be more than matched by that of our students I am sure.”
Victorian COVID-19 Appeal
The recent hard lock-down in Melbourne meant additional hardship for
many children. As a result, a second Appeal was launched.
Dymocks Children’s Charities shared that, “The Appeal was kick-started with an incredible $12,000 donation from the Phillips Foundation. This donation enabled us to support the families who reside in the Flemington and North Melbourne Towers.
“Children received packs of books, puzzles, games and English as a Second Language titles. We partnered with the Australian Muslim Social Services Agency as our logistics partner to distribute the packs to families isolating within the towers.”
